Created by Molly Smith Metzler (who has previously worked on “Orange Is the New Black” and “Shameless”), the show vividly depicts the fragility of a life lived paycheck to paycheck, where one unexpected bill can start a downward spiral. Margaret Qualley makes the most of a meaty leading role in “Maid,” a mini-series based on Stephanie Land’s memoir about being a cash-strapped single mother cleaning fancy houses in the Pacific Northwest.

This is a story full of surprises, where the audience perhaps shouldn’t believe everything they hear. As with the original, this remake (directed by Antoine Fuqua from a Nic Pizzolatto script) confines most of its action to a single location, focusing intently on Joe’s face as he reacts to a crisis he can’t actually see. When Joe gets a call from a distressed woman (Riley Keough), he uses whatever resources are available to him while stuck in the office, trying to investigate - and, if possible, to stop - what could be an abduction in progress. ‘The Guilty’īased on a 2018 Danish film, “The Guilty” stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Joe Baylor, a police officer assigned to work at a dispatch desk while under investigation for using excessive force. David Bryan and Joe DiPietro, the team behind the Tony-winning “Memphis,” provide both the script and the high-energy arena-rock songs. Jeanna de Waal plays the title character: the former Princess of Wales, who sings her way through the story of her not-so-storybook marriage to Prince Charles (Roe Hartrampf) and her complicated relationships with her husband’s lover Camilla Parker Bowles (Erin Davie) and Queen Elizabeth II (Judy Kaye). The opening is now slated for November, but over the summer, the cast and crew assembled in an empty theater to record the production. After its original run in San Diego in 2019, “Diana: The Musical” was set to launch on Broadway in March 2020, just as the pandemic shut down live theater.
